JacobRolf Jacob Sartorius, a boy born in Oklahoma was brought up in Tulsa. He was brought to Virginia for adoption after the parents suffered from illness and they were either unable or unwilling to take care of him. He was raised in Reston, Virginia by his adoptive parents and at age seven, began to perform in musicals. It was there that the passion to perform. Before the closure of Vine which was an American short-form hosting site for video in 2017, Sartorius lip-syncing videos posted through the site gained more than 8 million users up to August 2016. He believed that social media could be his way of escaping bullying because he had been a victim. He once said that he was not an outgoing, outgoing person prior to Musical.ly. He was sure that no one was watching other than the camera.
